Son of Rambow is Not Your Average Rambo Movie
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A FUN LITTLE MOVIE to liven up your Saturday night viewing, I suggest you rent Son of Rambow. It is part About a Boy (minus Hugh Grant), a dash of Millions (yet in this one the family is religious and the main character, Will Proudfoot, is less so), and vaguely reminiscent of the funky, fun movies that Kukla, Fran and Ollie (the later incarnation).
Directed and written by Garth Jennings, director of the recent The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the work is definitely a boys movie as it combines stunts, movie re-enactments, fanciful comic dream sequences, some extremely funny gross out moments, and graphitti in the boy’s bathroom. The movie simply worked for me, effectively balancing its seriousness with its humor.
