Boston Driving Lesson #1 - Never Stop for Pedestrians
IN A CLASSIC SUNDAY AFTERNOON MOMENT in Cambridge, we experienced the best of Boston driving standards and attitude. Yeah, I know Cambridge is north of Boston and a different place in many ways, but the driving tends to be the same for both Boston and Cambridge.
On the way back from Vermont, we stopped a cross-walk, so that several people could cross the street. We reflected on the fact that in stark contrast to Vermont, which was 3 degrees this morning, every is coverd in a wintery blanket of snow and ice, and everybody sports a hat and winter coat. Cambridge has a few remnants of snow and most people didn’[t have heavy hats or coats. As we waited for the pedestrians to cross, I noticed a white mini-van start to creep up on the right hand side of the car and then pass us while we were stopped at the cross-walk. Patty and I both looked at each and laughed. I then I started the car moving again. Ahhh, Boston.
