TsuShiMaMiRe - Pregnant Fantasy
TshShiMaMiRe looks like it should be a real Japanese word, but it is made up. This three piece band is all about big guitars, little voices, and cranking things between soft, whispered moments and clanging, loud moments. And it sounds like they have a lot of fun. I find them reminiscent of the Breeders (and the Pixies to some extent); they are definitely more alternative rock than punk.
I got this one off of iTunes, so you can get some j-rock without paying for shipping or a plane ticket. I found out info about them (including samples of songs) on the Benten Online/Sister Records site.
Their song titles and lyrics are fun and interesting. Instead of going into each song and what I like or don’t like about each one, I am going to simply list the song titles and let them intrigue you.
- 1 Umeboshi Plums-Big Seeds
2 Lingerie Shop
3 Ebihara Shinji
4 Manhole
5 Tea time Ska
6 Kedama Boogie
7 Fish Cakes(CAMABOCO girl)
8 Pregnant Fantasy
I suggest you go listen to some of snippets of their songs on their English language version of their web site. Then be prepared to want to go out and buy their cd.
I have found myself trying to sing “Ebihara Shinji” at odd moments at work or puttering around the house.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM! I found it when browsing on iTunes, and I think it’s THE BEST! I do wish I knew more Japanese to understand what they were saying a bit better though…
But thanks for the info that TsuShiMaMiRe wasn’t a real word- otherwise I would have spend HOURS trying to find the meaning… Haha.. Oh! Thanks for the website link too!
