Scenes from a Commute – Archer Mayor on the T
TODAY provided a prime example of no matter how jaded you might be, you can get surprised in a very pleasant way when you least expect it. Catching the Red Line up to Porter Square from Kendall Square I noticed an elderly gentleman with white hair and glasses deeply engrossed in a paperback. I leaned in a bit to eavesdrop on his reading choice (or is that eaves-read or backseat reading or simply plain rudeness). I clearly made out the author’s name on the top of the pages – Archer Mayor.
Mayor is a Newfane Vermont author who writes poignant and well-paced police procedurals set in Vermont. The Book Nook is co-sponsoring his upcoming talk at the Ludlow Fletcher Memorial Library on Tuesday October 27th (one of many such events on his annual book tour in New England this fall). I least expected his books to show up on a the subway in Boston, but hey, sometimes the good, little guys find some space with the usual suspects. No copies of “The Lost Symbol” spotted today either.
And if you are looking for a fast and enjoyable mystery, definitely pick up one of his books.
