Scenes from a Commute - Columbus Day Creates Elbow Room for Commuters
THE TRAIN EERILY MADE ITS WAY to Boston today without a lot of passengers. I was in no danger of having somebody sit with me as the Columbus Day holiday emptied the morning Express of most of its passengers. The lack of people made it feel more like a late evening run than a morning run.
Of course, this uncrowded ride followed a moment of panic when I awoke this morning. I wondered nervously if the commuter trains would be on holiday schedule or regular schedule. After a few eye-strained moments and retyping on my smartphone, I had my answer.
Thankfully they were on regular schedule and nearly empty. It was hard to tell where to board the train with nobody on the tracks though.
