a fun day at the beach

There are days that remind that you can be a kid at heart again. Or perhaps enjoy the world like a kid again. Today was one of those days.
Patty and I are in Ocean Shores, WA with our friends Chris, Richard and Sam for a few days. Yesterday it was […]

Flight by Sherman Alexie

SHERMAN ALEXIE IS AN AUTHOR that I have wanted to read more than I have read. In fact, until I found Flight: A Novel while perusing the shelves of the local, Leavenworth book store, I had read none of his books. In buying Flight: A Novel, I chose brevity over complexity, […]

A Few Notes on Haruki Murakami’s After Dark

HARUKI MURAKAMI’S SLIM NEW NOVEL feels a bit disconnected, like the all-nighter experience it describes. I started reading it while waiting for our flight to Seattle in San Francisco. The bedraggled, out of body experience of a flight delay in an airport seemed the appropriate setting to start reading this novel about one […]

Morning in Leavenworth

Amidst all the Bavarian flare in Leavenworth, there is a large, concrete structure that sticks out like a sore thumb. It appears to be some sort of fruit storage place for the Leavenworth Fruit Co.

Lollygagging in Leavenworth

After a night of drinking and dancing at the Century Ball Room on Friday night (not sure I want to detail my failed attempt at learning the Hustle), we made our way up to Leavenworth, WA yesterday. We stopped at a Target before hitting the road, picking up a few CDs for the road […]

Lost in Transition

Today was suppose to my day to be beautiful. A relaxing day in Seattle with no real plans other than to hang out, read, eat and drink. It started out well. It is fun to wake up to a view of the Puget Sound from your room.
After a successful walk […]

I Hate San Francisco and Other Stories

Patty and I started our West Coast vacation yesterday. In fact, it is really a Pacific Northwest vacation. We are heading back to our stomping grounds of Seattle to hang out with friends and family. I talked with a few other co-workers who lived in Seattle at one time before heading back […]

Afro Samurai, Can you dig it?

I picked up Afro Samurai (Director’s Cut)on a whim while ordering some other stuff from Amazon. I had noticed that the soundtrack was available on eMusic and decided I couldn’t go wrong with something entitled Afro Samurai.
Now if you like anime, manga, hip hop, and Samuel L. Jackson, you are in luck. […]

Anthony Bourdain’s The Nasty Bits

My Luddite tendencies have taken over when I travel by plane. Laptops, iPods, PSP, etc are all nice, but they sometimes require too much work to be enjoyable on a plane.
For my trip from Boston to Seattle, I settled down in my window seat (I usually go with the aisle seat, but hey) with the […]

40 years down, more to go…

Today is my 40th birthday. Kind of weird.
As befitting a workaholic, I am attending a training session for work in Bellevue, WA.
I am sure I will start to understand what that means after it gets a chance to sink in a bit. Or maybe not.
