New Running Shoes - Asics GEL-KAYANO® XII (TN600)

After hitting a milestone at work two weeks ago and having a good race at the Country Slough Run, I decided to treat myself with a new pair of running shoes. When you work out 5-6 days a week, having a good set of shoes makes a world of difference as I have learned […]

Winter’s Coming

I have been rather slack writing lately, and I spent yesterday under the influence of cold medicine. However, I was remiss in reporting that we got a bit of snow in Ludlow on Sunday. It was a torrential down pour on Saturday, but Sunday the rain was lighter and turned to snow about […]

Lovecraft Festival in Vermont

I noticed a reference to Lovecraft while reading the local newspaper, the Rutland Herald, online. The article was entitled “Lovecraft rare book among selections”. I realized in reading it that I had missed the Horror in the HIlls Lovecraft festival in Dummerston, Vermont. Damn. Oh, well, there is always next year. […]

Saturday Morning in Washington, DC

Rather uneventful and somewhat restful flight to Washington, DC. We rode the jet stream and got in a bit early. It was dark when we landed. Sun has now peaked out and lit up the sky. It is a rather smudged yellowish orange blue.

Sleepless in Seatac

Waiting to board my red eye flight back to the East Coast in the N section of the Seatac Airport. There is a long line of weary travelers looking for upgrades or new seat assignments.
Today was a rather rushed day, especially after getting a later than normal start trying to recover from a night […]

Ben Kweller - Ben Kweller

The latest album, cd, collection of MP3s/WMAs, or whatever we want to call it, that has been hanging around my music players is Ben Kweller’s Ben Kweller.Self-titled albums are ok by me, but you always wonder about the ones that come three albums or so into a career. It seems like self-titled albums should […]

After 16 Years in Seattle, Heading Back to the East Coast

I have spent the last year commuting between Redmond, WA and Ludlow, VT. I have also traveled around the world. It’s been a fun, interesting year. I have much different appreciation for the vast, openness that is most of the USA than I used to, based on my road trips across the country. […]

Running in the Rain - the Woodinville Country Slough Run

I returned to Woodinville for another go at the Country Slough Run. Last year it was sunny and warm. Today it was rainy, wet and cold. It was my first “adverse weather conditions” race, but I am in much better shape than last year.

Bruce Morgan joined me in the rain […]

London Live - Britpop TV

While my co-worker Tony is continuing to love life without television, I have entered back into the cable-connected word like a junky to smack.
In particular, I have Comcast and the dvr/HD package. I tend to watch a lot of sports, but my favorite program at the moment is the seemingly endless showings […]

Tim Powers - On Stranger Tides

If you are looking for an enjoyable mess of book about pirates, voodoo, and the Fountain of Life that rivals Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man’s Chest for pure action and comedy and horror, then you should pick up Tim Powers On Stranger Tides. It has lots of other weird, cool ideas and […]
